BIOGRAPHY
A pioneer of Bulgarian volleyball, Dimitar Karov stood at just 5’8” but left a towering legacy. As a three-time Olympian (1964, 1968, 1972), Karov was instrumental in Bulgaria’s rise as an international volleyball powerhouse. He led his country to a silver medal at the 1970 FIVB World Championship and was named Best Setter of the tournament, a testament to his court vision, leadership, and technical brilliance. He also helped CSKA Sofia to a Champions Cup title in 1969. Revered for his tenacity and intelligence, Karov was honored with the CEV Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and remains a national icon and inspiration for future generations.
