BIOGRAPHY
Guillermo “Willy” Paredes has been one of the most respected figures in international volleyball officiating for decades, known worldwide for his expertise, integrity and leadership. On the court, he officiated at three Olympic Games, including the men’s gold medal match at Atlanta 1996, as well as multiple finals at FIVB World Championships, World Cups, World League, and Grand Prix events, consistently bringing fairness and excellence to the sport’s biggest stages.
Off the court, Paredes has been a driving force in referee development worldwide. Since 2017, he has served as President of the FIVB Rules of the Game & Refereeing Commission, spearheading modernization efforts and expanding global education and training programs. He also played key leadership roles at the Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, serving as President of the Refereeing Sub-Committee in Tokyo and Paris.
As President of the CSV Refereeing Commission, Paredes implemented a strategic plan that elevated South American referees to prominence on the world stage. A certified FIVB Referee Instructor since 1989, he has mentored countless officials, leaving an enduring mark on the profession by shaping future generations with his knowledge and passion for the game.
For his excellence as an official and his global contributions to referee education and development, the International Volleyball Hall of Fame is proud to induct Guillermo “Willy” Paredes as a Referee.
