FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are Musculosystematics and Musculosystematic Engineering (MsE™)?
Musculosystematics is the study of the safety and effect of cumulative neuromuscular interaction in any movement at any moment, in which each neurological pathway and muscle has multiple, distinct functional responsibilities. While Musculosystematics is the governing theory, Musculosystematic Engineering is the direct application of the principles to exercise.
Simply put, MsE uses a complex cuing system to continuously improve the way that you integrate all of your muscles, no matter the position or movement. It is highly adaptable to specific sports and needs as it systematically breaks down complex movements into base elements to “engineer” you from a baseline.

What makes Musculosystematic Engineering™ unique?
Musculosystematics places significant importance on the collective involvement of supportive muscular recruitment throughout the body. While it is impossible to take into all of the factors associated with human movement, especially complex movements associated with reactive sports, we try to address as many as we can in digestible movements and exercises in order to “engineer” the body in a way that supports it through movements associated with your goal outcomes. It’s not the exercises themselves that are unique, it’s the way that they are implemented that makes the difference.
How do volleyball players benefit from MsE™ services?
Volleyball is both a chaotic and repetitive sport, meaning that although you are reacting to the situations presented to you (chaotic), you are constantly repeating the same overall motions with slight variations in order to maintain control. For example, you will never approach, swing, land, pass, transition, etc. the same every time, but you try to recreate the motions that have been the most effective.
How MsE can benefit is the focus on the athletes’ ability to engage appropriate musculature to distribute impact to muscular systems rather than joints, maximizing trunk stability for balance, agility, and a strong base from which to jump and land. You can’t shoot a cannon from a canoe, so developing the baseline understanding of how to move for the sport of volleyball then leads to more explosive power output.
Through the application of MsE™, volleyball athletes can expect to enjoy greater ball control, increased lateral and vertical explosiveness, and an increased ability to avoid awkward landings that can lead to injury, among many other benefits. Basically, if applied appropriately, it can reduce non-contact and overuse injuries.

Can I participate in more than one program at a time?
Yes, in fact it is encouraged! The Injury Prevention programming is low impact and focuses on movement and learning how to operate your muscular systems in coordination with each other. The Sports Performance programming will follow a similar format, but will progress quickly to more explosive movements similar to what you would perform on the volleyball court! The Shoulder Health group focuses on the intricacies of the shoulder joint in coordination with your other muscular systems, meaning it will actually help you complete the other two programs!
If you are participating in other programs for your team or on your own, these exercises and programs can supplement your current programming.

I’m currently injured/coming back from injury. Can I still participate?
Depending on the severity of the injury, you may be able to join and scale down your workouts. The Injury Prevention and Shoulder Health Groups will typically reduce symptoms of pain, but your best bet will be to take advantage of the free consultation provided via the link below and discuss your injury/recovery with our head coach.
DO I NEED ANY SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT?
NO! All exercises can be done at home with no special equipment. You may want to use a yoga mat for comfort on some exercises and have some open wall space nearby for shoulder specific exercises.
HOW LONG DO THE PROGRAMS LAST?
All programs are 4 weeks long and culminate in an online reception/meet and greet with a Hall of Famer!
WHAT EXACTLY DO I GET FROM THE I²SM ONLINE PROGRAM?
When you sign up for a program, you’ll gain access to our online training website. You can access this at any time from your phone, tablet, or computer. Each program has both a live online version and a printable workout card for you to follow. You’ll get live video demonstrations of each exercise, as well as regression/progression recommendations for the key exercises.
The I²SM Difference
Musculosystematics is a movement technology from the International Institute of Sport and Movement (I²SM). It's a systematic evaluation of your muscular systems in order to address any underlying dysfunctions that may be causing pain or discomfort or limiting performance. While similar to other movement forms, our coaches are experts in identifying and progressing exercises in order to maximize your sessions and to advance to your goals. I²SM programming is a hybrid model of physical therapy, biomechanical assessment, sports performance training, and sports science.
After years of helping professional athletes return from injury, enhance their performance, and excel at their sport, I²SM was determined to create a similar environment for the general public. Whether you are recovering from injury or are looking to improve in specific facets of volleyball, Musculosystematics can develop a program that will help you be your best self.
