BIOGRAPHY
Jürgen Wagner is one of the most accomplished coaches in beach volleyball history, with groundbreaking success that reshaped the sport in Europe. He is the only coach to guide both men’s and women’s teams to Olympic gold medals—first with Brink/Reckermann in 2012, and then with Ludwig/Walkenhorst in 2016.
Wagner also coached his teams to two FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships (2009, 2017) and six European Championship titles. Renowned for his innovative approach, meticulous preparation and tactical mastery, he equipped European athletes to challenge and defeat the traditional beach volleyball powerhouses.
Before fully focusing on beach volleyball, Wagner enjoyed success in the indoor game, winning German national championships with both men’s and women’s teams in the early 1990s. He was named DOSB Coach of the Year in 2017 which recognized his transformative impact on the sport in Germany and later served as Germany’s National Beach Volleyball Coach from 2020 to 2022.
For his extraordinary achievements and transformational impact on European beach volleyball and how the sport was played and coached worldwide, the International Volleyball Hall of Fame is proud to induct Jürgen Wagner as a Coach.
