Laura Ludwig’s career is defined by historic firsts, relentless determination and sustained excellence at the highest levels of beach volleyball. A five-time Olympian, Ludwig achieved the ultimate prize at the 2016 Rio Games, where she and partner Kira Walkenhorst captured the first-ever Olympic Gold Medal for a European women’s beach volleyball team - a groundbreaking triumph that reshaped the sport’s global landscape.
The duo followed that triumph with victory at the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and four European Championship titles (2008, 2010, 2015, 2016). Ludwig’s defensive prowess earned her back-to-back FIVB Best Defensive Player honors in 2016 and 2017, a testament to her extraordinary tenacity and skill.
Over the course of her career, Ludwig has amassed 35 FIVB World Tour wins and podium finishes, making her one of the most decorated European players in history. Her longevity, adaptability, and competitive drive have kept her among the world’s elite for more than a decade, inspiring athletes across the globe.
For breaking barriers and achieving sustained global success, the International Volleyball Hall of Fame is proud to induct Laura Ludwig as a Female Beach Player.
