The International Volleyball Hall of Fame (IVHF) announced the names of six volleyball legends to be inducted as the Class of 2019 into its hallowed halls on November 9 in Holyoke, Massachusetts USA, the sport’s birthplace.
The 34th induction class consists of male indoor volleyball players Boris Gyuderov of Bulgaria and Josef Tesar of Czech Republic, female indoor volleyball players Mirka Francia of Cuba and Valentina Ogienko of Russia, beach volleyball player Zé Marco de Melo of Brazil, and coach Vasil Simov of Bulgaria.
“The 2019 class of inductees are remarkable individuals who have brought distinction to the sport over many years,” said George Mulry, Executive Director of the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. “This class honors the legends of the game through diversity of gender, discipline, and country and represents a great balance of deserving individuals among different eras in our sports history.”
The induction class is elected by a vote of past International Volleyball Hall of Fame inductees along with a fan vote. All told, 146 individuals representing 24 different countries will have been inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame after this year’s enshrinement ceremony.
The International Volleyball Hall of Fame induction festivities, , kick off with a special Alumni Reception on Thursday, Nov. 7, at historic Judd Gymnasia at Springfield College – site of the first volleyball demonstration, a Ring and Jacket Ceremony at the Mayor's Reception on Friday, Nov. 8, at the IVHF Museum culminating with the formal Enshrinement Dinner and Ceremony taking place the evening of Nov. 10 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke following the Mizuno Meet & Greet at 5 p.m. ET.
