Biography

The officiating career of Catalino Ignacio spans four decades and includes major roles in collegiate, national and international competition.

"Iggy" became a USVBA Regional Official in 1954 and received his national rating in 1956. In the years that followed, in addition to his time spent on the official stand, Ignacio would serve as the Chairman of Officers, USVBA Region 13, Chairman of the USVBA's International Referee Candidate Selection Committee, and Chairman of the USVBA's National Officials Development Committee.

Ignacio's collegiate highlights included being the Head Official of the Southern California Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, as well as the Head Official for the USA Volleyball Magazine Classic and the 1973 Men's Division I National Championship.

Internationally, he was one of the two U.S. Representative Officials as the Pan American Games in 1967 and 1971, and at the 1968 Olympics. In 1973, he was the only U.S. Representative Official at the First World Cup (Women's Division). In addition, he worked the finals of the World Games in 1974 and the World Cup Championships in 1977.

Ignacio's services were in such demand that when he reached the mandatory retirement for International Officials, he was the only person to ever have his certification extended an additional eight years.

He is a 1967 recipient of the USVBA's "Golden Whistle" and "Leader in Volleyball" Awards, and a 1987 recipient of the USVBA's "Referee Emeritus" Award.
