BIOGRAPHY
C. L. "Bobb" Miller began his volleyball career in 1944 when he played on the St. Paul, Minn. YMCA team. 1948-1952 saw him coaching successful teams from the Miami/ Florida YMCA and from 1952-1959 he was coach of the Embarcadero YMCA team in the San Francisco area.
While in San Francisco, Miller served as regional commissioner, newsletter editor, regional officials chairman and director of volleyball for the United States Army. He returned to Miami in 1960 and has been associated with top rated teams from that area since.
Miller became a USVBA National Referee in 1953 and 31 years later in 1984 he received the Referee Emeritus Award. In 1963, Bobb was named as the chairman of the Referee Emeritus Award Committee and he served as chairman of the officials committee from 1963-1974.
Miller's peers selected him as the recipient of the Golden Whistle Award in 1967. In 1971, he was only the fourth USVBA national official to be honored with certification as a Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Arbitre. His international assignments included World Cups, World University Games, World Championships, NORCECA Zone Championships and the Pan America Games. He served as president of the NORCECA referees commission, as a member of the FIVB's referees commission from 1980-1984, member of the USVBA rules, officials’ development and evaluation; he is a leader in volleyball, international relations and championships committees.
Miller received the Frier Award in 1984 and was selected as a Leader in Volleyball in 1965.
