BIOGRAPHY

Eugenio George is a name that everyone in volleyball recognizes – a name that represents volleyball coaching at its best. Listen to his record. He led the Cuban Women’s National Team for 15 years, bringing them to the winners’ platform more than twenty-five times. He guided his team to three consecutive Olympic gold medals in 1992, 1996, and 2000, as well as three World Championship crowns in 1978, 1994, and 1998. There were four straight World Cup titles in 1989, 1991, 1995, and 1999, and three straight Grand Champions Cup gold medals in 1989, 1991, and 1995. In 2000, the Federation Internationale de Volleyball named George the Best Women’s Volleyball Team Coach of the Twentieth Century. Sustaining this stunning record, George also brought home twelve North-Central American-Caribbean Volleyball Association championships, achieving an unprecedented level of national and international success. Sports commentators dubbed his team “the spectacular Caribbean Browns.”

The sheer number of medals and honors won by the Cuban teams coached by Eugenio George testify to his amazing skill and ensure his legacy as the most successful coach in the history of the sport.
